When I saw her at The Open, I didn’t know who she was at first until I heard the announcers, I knew she had style and started snapping away.  I ran into her on one of the sunny days and we sat down and chatted about life liberty and the pursuit of snowboard happiness.

She attends the famous Stratton Mountain School (SMS) where Kelly Clarke attended and trained.  She splits her days during winter season, between mountain training and in a classroom.

Fall and spring she’s out cross training on her mountain bike and running, lifting weights and taking aerobic classes.  She also trains with her older brother Ben (21).

KG: Where do you see women’s snowboarding heading?

LJ: It’s great that the women’s field has definitely increased. I’d love that there are almost as many girls as there are guys cause girls

always get down rated cause they’re always saying, well there never isn’t any girls competing-you have it so easy.  But now there has been allot of girls getting involved, and I think it’s great.

KG: What advice can you offer to girls starting out?

LJ:  I would say start by riding in the Halfpipe. It has all the elements you need to become strong.  You always want to have a little racing background, than you really have control of your edges and Halfpipe will come easier.

KG:  Who do you like to ride with on your free days?

LJ:  My Brother Ben and my best friend Michele.

KG: Stratton is your home Mountain, what year did you start competing at the Open?

LJ: I starter two years ago and I started with Boardercross.  I got 12th two years ago and last season I won ans I was pretty stoked about that.  I was totally bummed that they (US Open) didn’t continue to have boardercross this season.  So I went to Halfpipe and it’s my second year competing in Halfpipe and I’m really stoked.

KG:  What kind of music you listen too and what groups are your favorite?

LJ:  I Listen to a wide variety of Club, Techno and Rap.  Lately I’ve been listening to Ja Rule and a lot of women like Janet Jackson and Madonna.  Fun music is great to ride to; it always puts you in a great mode. Freeriding is better for listening to music.  It’s hard for me in Halfpipe because it puts me in a state of unawareness and that’s when I get hurt.

At only 16, Lindsey has traveled to many professional snowboarding events usually placing in the top five.  She is an all around rider competing in every discipline Slalom to Halfpipe.

In her 2000/2001 season at USASA Nationals Junior division, she placed 1st in Slalom, GS, boardercross, 4th in Slopestyle and 3rd in Halfpipe.  She became a member of the US Junior National Team, traveled to Italy, and placed 1st in Boardercross aining international recognition.

Lindsey took 12th in her heat in the Superpipe Pre Qualifiers, which unfortunately wasn’t good enough to advance.  If I could understand the elimination process leading up to the finals for the girls, I would definitely question why this little fireball didn’t make it. When I interviewed her shed already knew she didn’t advance, but that didn’t stop her from smiling in the snow.
